Two new paintings (Wire #3 and Wire #4) from the wire series that I’ve been meaning to post for a while. Another to come soon. Both of these are 12″ by 12″. Encaustic on panel.

Two new pages and a rant

Why don’t people get that making art is important, if not crucial? Why is there so much bitching that if I have time to draw, then I must not be as busy as I say I am? Part of being an artist — part-time or full-time, professional or amateur — is building blocks of time into your schedule precisely for the purpose of drawing.  For so many people, drawing is not something that is done in order to kill time, or just on Sunday afternoons; it is a necessary part of everyday life. Drawing is like a muscle that needs to be exercised — and it must be exercised every single day or it will deteriorate. Use it or lose it.

We make our lives busy with all the things that we need to (or must) fill our days with. And for people who make art seriously, it’s not a piece that can be taken out, no matter how much disparagement, contempt, and derision it is met with on the part of those who would consider it to be no more than a hobby.

Rant over.
